There was an article posted earlier in the week that basically said that Subaru's North American BRZ orders at this point won't be fullfilled until May of 2013, implying that they've exhausted their production quota of 6000 cars for Model Year 2013.

Not sure if it was confirmed or not, but I suspect that's what he was referring to. In other words, everything queued up for factory production is either an existing order, or general production runs already being allocated to the dealers. In other words, no more custom factory orders, you just have to check every month to see what comes in to your dealer's allocation, or try to find one somewhere in the country that matches your desired options.

That all said, should the dealer take a deposit and just let the OP know when a car is allocated to them that matches his request? That might be a good idea, but since it's not a definite order, I don't think the dealer would want to do that for a couple of reasons: 1) The customer is likely going to be doing this with other dealers as well, and will just demand his deposit back when the first dealer comes through, and 2) Why take a deposit for something you aren't guaranteed to deliver on? They may never get a car that matches the OP's requirements, which would just put them in a bad situation of taking money from a customer and not being able to deliver.
