In the snow belt I don't think it would hurt WRX sales at all, but places like Cali and other warm weather areas WRX sales would drop like a rock if there was a turbo BRZ... which there won't be.

On a global scale, you are definitely right. Looking at it from that broader perspective--even with a turbo option--I don't think you are going to see a dent in WRX sales because the BRZ gets FI. Why? Because people largely don't compare the two cars. "Does it go fast in a straight line?" is not the usual question asked by Subbie customers, in my experience.
