My thougts : the map that's included is part of a
value added package - and while you're correct in saying that the term "basemap" is used
very loosely, I feel that AVO has gone out of their way to get you a calibration that has spent at least a
dozens of hours on a JPN Dyno, then
dozens on a US Dyno and the
dozens of hours more between Seattle and Las Vegas and then back again with a variety of gas choices.
Nothing will ever be perfect or a "one size fits all" map - but this one has considerably more time and effort into it as opposed to a map that just starts the car up. I don't think any one company has that many
'dozens' of hours in the maps they currently offer in their FI kits for the FRS / BRZ.
