Honestly man, you should have gone with the manual. I learned to drive stick last year in a 98 Corvette after I got my permit, which was also my first car. I just turned 17 last week, and got my FR-s last month. Wouldn't have gotten it with anything but the manual. My parents figured if they learned to drive a stick shift in their first cars, so could I.
Also, don't drive like an asshat and fall into the "spoiled kid that can't handle the car mommy and daddy bought for him" stereotype. I know I'm young too, but take it from a kid who has gone through hell at school simply because he drives a nice car, and drive responsibly and prove to people you can handle a sports car at a young age!
PS -- I'm sure the auto will be awesome too. You're going to love the car.
