Yep the car's a little light on torque, but if you're willing to run the engine hard and downshift, it's got about the right amount of power for "spirited" daily driving and fun on backroads.

This would be beyond supercar territory.

Saleen S7 = .254
Carrera GT = .198

SLR McLaren = .164
Etc, etc..

I'm calling shenanigans. Another slow news day equals a rediculous article.
Eh your math is a bit off.

Saleen S7 = 2750 lbs / 750 hp = 3.7 lbs/hp
CGT = 3000 lbs / 612 hp = 4.9 lbs/hp
599 = 3721 lbs / 612 hp = 6.08 lbs/hp
SLR Mclaren = 3900 lbs / 619 hp = 6.3 lbs/hp

BRZ-T = 2800 lbs / 280 hp = 10.0 lbs/hp

So the BRZ-T wouldn't be anywhere near supercar power-to-weight, closer to 370z actually:

370z = 3232 lbs / 332 hp = 9.7 lbs/hp
