So sure, the FR-S should be a bit more expensive than the $19k tC, but how much? $3-4k seems like a fair starting point but even then average Joe and Betty could argue that is a lot to pay extra over the tC. For us, as enthusiasts I think we would happily fork over that extra $3-4k if it provides a great feeling behind the wheel, a great engine, nice interior...bla bla bla everything we have been talking about. But if you start asking for $6-8k over the tC ($25-27k) I think you will not only lose average Joe and Betty but also us the enthusiasts. Scion/Toyota really need to get this in the low to mid $20k range. Low 20s if the car is very basic would be acceptable. Toyota/Subaru should know that if they did their market research and read the forums. No one will pay +$27k for a Scion. Well maybe no one is too harsh since there would probably be a fanboy or two out there who would. But let's just say no one with common sense would.
This.

What Tranzformer said.

I frankly could not have put this any better myself. I am paying off $30k worth of FJ Cruiser as I am passing through grad school, and it is like passing a pea-sized kidney stone. I don't want to do that again.

Yes, the dollar is losing its value quicker than a box of lint at a Naval Commissioning ceremony, but I just could not bear to take out a near-decade-long loan in order to purchase a car with such limited capabilities. $27k WOULD have me considering a used purchase of a much nicer brand of car.

Since I mostly wrench myself, I can fix whatever breaks, hence my ability to hold onto my '94 Bimmer 325Is (E36) Coupe for 5 years. I could buy a Boxster or a 3 year old Cayenne for that kind of cash - heck, I even found a slew of old 911s for decent prices. I just can't stomach paying nearly $30 large for a car that was supposed to replicate the old-school RWD Corollas or Celicas of the 1970s and '80s.
