I'm a Warranty Claims Coding Specialist for BMW. I know AAALLLLL about warranty, I've been doing it for a while now.

The reason I got excited about the EJ257 swap is because of the sheer fact that it's possible and supposedly not going to require much fab. Sure the EJ that's in it is mounted crazy low in the car so that might bring up some issues with the plumbing. Sure the motor that's in it might very well respond incredibly to modification so a swap wouldn't really be necessary.

I have the unwanted pleasure of telling people "Sorry, that's not covered." and hearing them complain. If I were to do an engine swap or any type of heavy modification it would be AFTER warranty expires. That would at least give me some time to feel out the car and the heart that's in it. Also if about a year or so in I don't like the heart it came with and feel like doing a transplant I'll buy the EJ257, leave it on a stand and start slow moding it till my warranty runs up, THEN put it in. There's no rush, if I get this car I plan on having it for a while; I've been waiting for it for a while.
