I'm pretty sure that when they started talking about this project, it was well *under* that amount (2000lbs? 2200lbs? can't remember). It's only in the past 2 years that the expected weight has been increasing steadily ("under 2800? under 2600?"). Remember, a MINI Cooper S weighs 2660lbs, and an MX-5 weighs less than 2500lbs. If they're talking about not even including a CD player to save weight, I'm wondering what else they're working on... roll-up windows? No spare tire? Less sound insulation? Etc.
I said it at the beginning of this that if Toyota can't match/beat the MINI Cooper S on weight (2600lbs), hp (181hp) and price ($23k) they really should reconsider the project. It looks like Toyota's well on it's way to achieving those goals, though....
