I don't think anybody is saying "3000lbs is bad" as a blanket statement. The point is Toyota's been going out of its way to say that the FT86 is going to value lightweight and superb balance/feel over brute power... and if it were 3000 lbs that'd fly against all their marketing hubub and positioning. Plus relative to how small the car is, 3000 would be terrible.
