As a current Japanese Auto Manufacturing employee in a powertrain plant allow me to debunk all this "pre-broken in" bullshit. Engines are not "broken in" at all before they go in a car. They're warmed up and revved to 4500rpm ish rpm and checked for noise and leaks. 1 in about 100 are actually started and ran. The rest get tossed in a big metal shipping crate and sent to the vehicle plant.
From there they go out of said crate onto the front subframe and have the tranny and front suspension bolted on. Then they're jacked up into the car. The car gets to the end of the line and they run the mortal dog shit out of it (redline being normal) on a dyno like wheel and slam the brakes on. Then they go through the rain tunnel and are checked for leaks.
The various drivers a new car sees before you get it dont "break in" the car. Most just drive it like it's a sports car or an economy car.
