The FR-S auto is light years better. In Sport mode it does a damn good job of keeping you in the powerband at all times, and it'll downshift in a flash when it needs to. Oh, and it actually has a completely manual mode, unlike the tC1.

I can't agree with this more. The auto in the tC is rubbish and can't seem to make up its mind which gear it wants to be in and the shifts feel like the bands are made of playdoh.

My wife's tC is an auto and so is my FR-S. I have never in my life ever owned an automatic sports car (and I've had a lot of sports cars) but I was sold the first time I drove it.
