At stock compression on a K series 11:1 I made 425whp at 16psi on 93 and drove it that way for three years beating the piss out of it. I only ended up building internals for fun later on. I never had any issues with the motor. I'm sure the 86's high compression Subaru motor can handle 8 psi. And incidentally, high compression makes the HP numbers easier to hit.
Well the rule of thumb that ive been lead to believe is low comp = high boost, high comp = low boost. High boost and high comp will always give more power, but you will need more octane than 93.
