AT's hard acceleration times being a tick off the 6MT, is from slight lag in torque converter off the line in 1st (to protect it from destruction and wear/abuse), and also from longer stagger in the gear ratio (which lends to excellent fuel economy, quieter cabin, and comfort on highways for the AT. Which is a give and take that I gladly have for a city road car with full 6 speeds).
