Have you tried formatting in exFAT? If it reads then perhaps that will solve it because exFAT doesn't have the 4GB cap...

I think he's talking about how files can't be bigger than 4gb which wouldn't effect you since mp3 are small.

I would check the encode settings, I'm pretty sure by default iTunes encodes as AAC not mp3.

If that doesn't work I would wipe the drive and start over like Guff said.
