I wouldn't say I was lucky, I did alot of homework before I ordered the car. I rang over a dozen dealerships to find out order quantities, when Shepparton Toyota told me they only had 2 orders in line I made left a deposit.

Sorry, my mistake! Then again, who would know to have done that? I do know people who have walked in a found a cancellation then stepped in and driven away! I was offered a 'tornado grey' but said no, so in fact I could have been set by now but ready for the LOOOOOOONG wait!
I would say that 99 out of every 100 who have placed an order would not have been aware of the methodology Toyota uses. I guess I feel sorry for the customers of one Dealership in Brisbane who supposedly took 90 orders in the first FOUR days! Where the hell would you be in their queue?
