Let's go further with it.
*Rear drive and <2900lbs? You have the Miata, Cayman R, and Exige S
*Rear drive and 30+mpg? Mustang V6, BMW 335d, Genesis Coupe 2.0T
*30+mpg and <2900lbs? Fiesta, Mazda2, MINI Cooper [S, JCW], nothing rear drive I can find.
The Cayman R, at 2855 Lbs, 29 hwy MPG, and a very nice 8.7:1 weight/power ratio to go with it's $66k base price. So for 3x your budget you can get close on weight and economy and have plenty of quickness.
The Miata is pretty close to everything, 2511 Lbs, $25k for Touring, rear drive, 28 hwy MPG, and 15:1 weight/power ratio.
The 2nd closest alternative would be the MINI JCW, at $29k is a touch over budget, front drive, 33 hwy MPG, and 12.8:1 weight/power ratio.
IMO, the Miata is a jack of all trades and the most fun car on Earth.
