I dont' want any headache with amplifiers'n'stuff so maybe you could advise some other 3-way split sets, considering there will be no external amp, so I dont need to overpay for a bit pricey Hertz HSK163?

thanks!

Upgrading your head deck to an aftermarket one should already improve your sound quality somewhat.

If you're not going with an external amp, I don't suggest you spend much on speakers. Their potential will just go to waste. I probably wouldn't spend more than $200 on the front set if I wasn't hooking them up to an amp.

For your purpose I think 2-way splits will do.

The Hertz DSK165 are quite popular. They go for around $200.
As do the Pioneer TS-A1604C.

I think 3-ways start at around $500 (don't quote me on this).

I did exactly what you did with my first car (and first aftermarket sound setup). Just bought some crappy little HU, Front speakers, and 6x9 for some bass. They were all entry level. As you can imagine, the sound wasn't mind blowing. But it was a significant upgrade to the stock crap. If you are after a relatively small but noticeable improvement, then you're getting the right stuff.

Hope that helps.
