i personally peg this car at about 2800.
safety standards have mandated a ton of things like side airbags, stability control, pedestrian front crash standards, etc. also if you dont want a crappy crash rating, you will over engineer things. add in the ever growing lust for technology in cars (bluetooth, ipod, nav, etc.) and you end up with the heavy cars of today.
