My impression of JDM wheel-snobbery (which is basically what you're asking I think)
Dish is good, bigger and wider is good up to a point.
Japanese brands are preferred (Work, Enkei, Rays etc). Forged is preferred over cast construction as it's lighter for the same size/strength.
Rota (copies of JDM wheels, cast but fairly strong/light, based in the Philippines) acceptable if you don't want to spend so much and want new wheels.
Quality european wheels like e.g. a classic mesh BBS is totally fine, if you want to be different.
Non-original OEM wheels (e.g. swapped from a BMW) = poor
Cheap high-street or eBay wheels (e.g. TSW) = very poor
