I shopped both. The base cayman has zero torque down low and is miserable to drive daily in traffic. It's adequate up top. The interior is awful. It has that idiotic 15 feet of clutch pedal and long throw shifter Germans insist on putting in so many of their cars.

The S has a much nicer motor and better interior, but I like working on my cars and the enclosed mid engine configuration, lack of a token rear seat, German reliability, ridiculous clutch throw, and the fact that it just isn't much more FUN to drive didn't justify the extra cost for the Porsche to me. I bought a BRZ.
