A step has been added to the instructions about using thread locker, and that should be all that is needed.

The issue I found was the foam seal, this broke and compressed around the screw holes and caused the lid to loosen up with the excess space. I'm assuming the engine heat and thin area around the screw hole is what made the foam deteriorate. I just finished a 1500 mile road trip and they are still good to go now after the re-tightening.
