Being we are from the same area, I'm sure you know that studded snow tires are illegal on the roads in Ohio. I didn't read that from your post, just wanted to make sure it was out there.
I have ContiWinterContact TS810 S (the performance Winter/snow tires) that I used on the tC for the past three years that worked wonderfully. I plan on using them on the FR-S as well.
