If that airbag light is the same as Imprezas, you can buy a test plug from Subaru, which clicks in properly, and will cancel out the light.
I've had my resistor pop out many times on my WRX, and the airbag didn't deploy. From what I know, if there is a break in the airbag circuit, the airbags wont work.
