I heard that Australia used to get boatloads of fairly recent used cars from Japan due to stringent and costly re-certification rules in Japan after 2 years. Wasn't sure if that was an urban myth. Gotta go there and see for myself. My nephew went to university in Sydney for 6 months recently as part of an exchange program and my brother brought his wife and other kid down for an incredible vacation. It's now on my bucket list.

Yeah there was a 'grey' imports rule which allowed Japanese cars over 10yrs old (i think) to be privately imported and complianced. So we have a tone of S13 silvias and R32 skylines here etc. The Celicas are mostly original Toyota Australia imports that have survived the last 30 - 40 years. But from what i understand we tend to get cars that are a lot closer to JDM spec than you guys.
