Wow, I'm surprised how strongly the AT camp feels about their cars and how defensive the MT folks are! Usually it's the other way around!

Let's face it, the cars are wonderful either way and whichever tranny helps you to enjoy it more is the best one for you. I can understand getting an AT- for some people with certain restrictions (medical/spouse/can't drive stick) it allows them to get into a car like the BRZ/FR-S instead of buying an AT Mustang!

I will say one advantage of the MT is it's almost 50lbs lighter. Although for a lot of people this may not be much of an issue.

The Aisin AT is a great tranny and is a little slower 0-60 than the MT. I suspect in the hands of an expert will probably be a little slower around a track as well. Although for less experienced track drivers the AT is a good idea- it allows you to focus more on cornering and braking zones.

But lets face it, it's no F1 gearbox. Yes Ferrari does not make an MT anymore, and even Porsche is rumored to be putting their PDK (sequential auto-manual) in their vaunted next gen 991 GT3 because they really are faster, even in the hands of a professional. We cannot shift as fast as these new transmissions. Not even close.

But if we're not racing, does a few tenths make a difference around the track? It's the fun aspect of these cars that's appealing. If you want something really fast this isn't it. And even a lot of these Ferrari guys wish they could get an MT and Porsche guys buy the MT, even though it's SLOWER. Because they think it's more fun to work 3 pedals. But that's just one's own opinion.

So shift yourself or let the computer shift, but have fun driving! No need to personally attack each other simply because of their choices.
