Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I must have skipped your question the first time.

Edmunds will give you invoice pricing on new cars. Often times even selling at or below invoice dealers are still making profit as they have deals with manufacturers for bonus money based on sales volume etc. It's generally better to work your deal around invoice price as opposed to starting at msrp and working your way down.
Overly simplified example:
Base 6mt 370Z: msrp $29,930usd invoice $28,043usd
That extra $1900 you would be paying if nissan forced everyone to buy at msrp is jut pure profit for the dealer.
Of course you have to also take into account dealer/manufacturer incentives and such and try to get it applied from invoice instead of from msrp otherwise the incentives are just being used to reduce that $1900 fluff charge that you shouldn't be paying anyway.
But like I said that's the overly simplified version.
Personally I've never paid more than $500 over invoice
and I'm sure the dealers still made a decent profit off me each time. It just takes a lot of time, patience, and willingness to walk away from the deal when the stealership is being stubborn.
