Actually it is quite different than most transmissions that Toyota makes. It actually locks up in gears 2-6 when in manual mode if I am not mistaken. Making the trans more like a DCT or manual than most may think as there is no parasitic loss.

The point remains that the auto has a lot of upside and one major downfall and that is the launching. Drag racing is not the only place you need to have a decent launch in. Auto-X is another great example.

There is no fix yet. It has been brought to Visconti attention though I would not expect anything anytime soon because of the work load he has put himself into.
