So after I split the housing, I used a heat gun to help with removing ALL the old sealant. I bought a roll of the 3M butyl tape and rolled a new bead in when it was time to close up the headlights. It was soft and pliable, so I didn't need to heat it up. Guaranteed a watertight fit using the new seal.
