Very true, bird etchings can be a pain. But usually not so bad if you can get them off in time and if your paint is waxed.
Here in AZ I have to say the worst thing is hard water. At least for non-factory painted.
I washed my car after it was just painted and didn't dry it off in time. The water had etched into the paint with a million drops. Luckily the shop buffed it out for me. I wasn't getting any luck with my polisher...
