I think the people who are saying, "Get a cheapo sedan for the next nine months and switch back to the fun car." are missing the point. This kid will need a car seat and I know some people have said it works, but it's not very practical to get a baby/toddler in and out of a car seat in the tiny FR-S back seats. Also, I think people are failing to recognize that these kids grow up and need to be driven around. Then, they get on various sports teams or whatever and have friends that need to be picked up for practice and whatnot. Plan your sh*t out before you bring another human being into the world. If you're not willing to work as a team (husband and wife) in order to give this child everything it needs, then don't have a kid.
I also know a bunch of people with their "fun" cars who have children of their own, but they have enough money to also have their own kiddy transporter in case the wife can't get the kids in her boring car. Oh, am I stereotyping here? Like ST185RC said, you had to sell her car so you could get something for yourself.
Sorry for the rant. I'm sure you all are wonderful people, but when you post this sort of stuff it makes you sound selfish. Human being > toys. If you're not willing to sacrifice, then don't bring one into the world. End of story.
