The thing with SOB being ripped on as a troll, is it's not just here. He's pretty much criticized everything about this car since he joined.
As for the Miata and Mustang being cheaper, well do you have a confirmed price on the Toyota/Scion? That's the next big question after getting confirmed power and weight figures. It could be a deal breaker if the price climbs to beyond the 'affordable' that everyone is expecting.
This car will likely be in the same price range as the Miata Sport (which is only a 5 speed) or Touring trim, I would hope. If it's more expensive I hope it's in the 200 hp 2500lbs range.
As for the Mustang, I've never considered buying one, even though I recognize that they are a billion times better than the old Fox 302s. A lot of people probably feel the same way.
When it comes to handling, they are benchmarking the Porsche Cayman, and have been testing extensively at the Nurburgring. I'm anticipating that it will actually out handle a C6 (not saying it will necessarily be faster around a track, though).
The Scion blab still bugs me. I put the pic in my sig, with my wheels, but a bad driving experience or bad buying experience (douchy sales reps) I will still walk.
My backup car is an MR-S and swapping in a 2ZZGE/6M combo, a hardtop and very minor other mods. It meets the lightweight, high revving, RWD, superb handling, decent mileage criteria of the FT86/FR-S, without dealing with idiot Scion sales reps trying to sell me coloured lighting and in-car DVD players, or other silliness. Plus I don't plan on drifting, so the mid-engine is no problem at all.
