manual loving guys are hostile and think they are better for knowing how to drive a manual... fact is, in this day and age, it is old technology and you can go faster/ get better mileage with automated manuals. manuals still offer better control because there is no way to control clutch modulation with these fancy automated manual boxes.
yes, the IS-F is pretty quick shifting. it is a traditional automatic with torque converter. like i said, they can be very good, it just takes money. they aren't ideal for performance applications, aside from drag racing/ straightline racing, but it can do the job.
ferrari 458 and GTR are dual clutch, LFA is single clutch. dual clutch is in essence superior, but it takes up more space vs. a single (if you need strength) and weighs more as a result. a single clutch unit can simply be a manual with electronics hooked up to it.
i have owned manual, dual clutch, crappy automatic, built automatic, and have driven single clutch... i am also ASE Certified in Automatic and Manual transmissions, so i know a thing or two about these. none do everything well, nor is there a real substitute for a manual. if you want the feel of driving a manual, then you need a manual. if you need an automatic, then nothing else will do... but at least there are better options on the market if you want performance and more control.
that said, for this car, it seems you will be likely getting an automatic with torque converter... with paddle shifters... but we will have to wait and see how good it is exactly. my bet is it will be similar to the automatics in the Mazda's, as those are made by Aisin.
