For the FA20 Turbo engines, AA040 was superceded by AA110 and in turn AA111. As you observed, this part does not fit the BRZ alternator bracket. While you did order AA110, I believe that even if they'd procured one of those for you, it'd be exactly the same problem.
For the FB25 engines, AA040 was superceded by AA05A. This part does fit the BRZ alternator bracket.
Sadly, I don't know a reliable way to find the correct part number for situations like this. I've found some sites are better than others, but I think it's that Subaru keeps changing the database - not always correctly - and some sites may have older data around. So some sites may have correct data while others are incorrect, and who's right and who's wrong depends on whether the data was broken or fixed by the change.
