Decel Fuel Cut Behavior in 2020 BRZ – 5th/6th Gear at High Speeds

Hey all,

I’ve noticed something odd with my 2020 BRZ regarding deceleration. Normally, when I lift off the gas, the car hits fuel cutoff pretty hard and decels quickly.

However, in 5th and 6th gear at speeds above 80 mph, it behaves differently. Instead of the usual hard fuel cutoff, it gradually lets off fuel and deceleration feels much softer. This doesn’t happen in other gears or at lower speeds.

The car is bone stock, other than muffler delete and some RPF1s. Stock airbox, never changed. 57k miles, I’m the original owner and haven’t done anything besides basic maintenance.

Things I’ve tried so far:
• Cleaned the MAF sensor
• Reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery

Neither of these made a difference.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Could this be normal ECU programming for high-speed cruising, or is it something that could be tuned or adjusted? I’m curious if anyone else has noticed this or if someone can go for a drive in their car and see if it’s the same.

Thanks in advance for any insights.
