I was not sure where to post this. Besides a Drove my FR-S today, did not crash… thread I searched but could not find a Drove my FR-S today, did crash thread… so I started one.
There is a narrow 2 lane country road with no shoulder from my house to the 4-lane. Some ahole in a pickup truck coming at me started to drift way over into my lane. On his cell phone?? Deaf, did not hear my horn? It was either hit him head on or take out a mail box. My passenger side mirror took out the mail box, destroyed the mirror, and shattered the triangular piece of glass. It could have been worse, the whole mirror could have been ripped off and damaged the door. Being the nice guy that I am, I told the mail box owner what had happened and offered to pay for it. He told me that this was the second time someone had hit it this year. The first time was a hit and run.
It cost me $40. for the mail box, $50 for a salvage yard mirror from eBay with a red shell, and $55. for a salvage yard triangle window from eBay. Both were in excellent condition.
I probably should have gone after the pickup truck and got his plate number, but it would have been my word against his. I do not have a dash cam. Yeah, I know I should have one.
There's a couple of DIY guides on the forum that I used:

The fix was not as bad as I thought it would be. There were small shards of glass from the window everywhere. Probably some down in the door frame that I can not get to.
The mail box.

What was left of the original mirror

Salvage yard side window, came with frame attached

Fix finished.

His new mail box, IMO, too close to the road
I had to dig deep into the repair manual to find the nut torques.
Front door window:
Bottom 12mm nut : 10 lb-ft = 120 lb-in
Top two 10mm nuts : 66 lb-in
Mirror
Three 10mm nuts: 66 lb-in. There's a rubber gasket on the mirror so do not over tighten these nuts.
Edit: Fast forward to today, 6/3. I told the mail box owner it was too close to the road. Someone hit it again.
Hit from above, a large truck? It's a mini mail box now.
