This is a weird one. I took it to a mechanic who checked the car, cleared the code and told me to drive it for 100+ miles and bring it back for re-inspection.
I took it back today, he hooked it to his code reader which said there were no codes, but as soon as he hooked it to the state inspection equipment it said there was a code again. Not only that but it turned on a bunch of dash lights. ABS and a couple others in addition to the CEL. Turning the car off and back on cleared all the lights except the CEL.
I've been in NC for 8 years now and this is the first time it's behaved like this. The last time the state inspection said there was a code, just having it cleared and driving for a while made it pass the next time.
