There is no way that those nuts should only be hand tightened. If that was the case, no point in the brace as it won't be doing anything.
You don't have enough threads engaging on those studs. Looks like you need longer studs (all of them), or ditch one of the braces.
As for the one that's already partially stripped, maybe there is enough threads left if you ditch the aftermarket brace?
