Hey Morning Twiners,
I took some inspiration from the CAE Ultra and went on an Amazon binge to snag two pieces that provide CAE hight, but for only $20 (shipped). The two pieces were a 4" M12x1.25 extension, and a reverse lockout adapter. I tossed-on a old Toyota Tacoma shift knob for some flare, but the OEM knob can be used.
Truth be said, I don't intend on keeping the "drift" or "rally" bits installed, but for sure I was surprised at some benefits of the newly found height and understand why some folks drive this way.
-----------
Goods:
- Retains notchy feel (so long as shift knob isn't too heavy)
- Hand transition from 3 o'clock to shifter lightning fast
- Not too gaudy with black aluminum bits
- Will start a conversation at a car show
Bads:
- Blocks stereo touchscreen somewhat
- Reverse lockout engagement is more awkward (but easily executed as the video shows)
- Can be perceived as a bit ridiculous
------
Anyway, below is a little video I put together that goes over the whole ordeal. Links to the extension pieces and the leather Tacoma shift knob are in the description.
Cheers,
-- Mike
