With rust and assuming OP’s info is accurate I guess vapor locked and bent a little but not enough to run awful until it finally got pounded on and finally gave up. Ran through a puddle stalled, towed home and restarted by luck and immediately sold, or maybe it was just a street car that never saw over 4k rpm.

In any case there was a statement a few weeks back from Subaru that they build street cars, not race cars. These things are not bullet proof and it’s wild how many people pretend they are.

They’re good cars, and it’s not like there’s much competition, but man I’ll be very happy if my second engine makes 100k miles at my current usage. Not sure if I’ll put that many miles on it.
