That heat shielding looks good!

I have many of the same thoughts about trying carbon fiber for a splitter. :-)

The first splitter I made was up in the front as well (followed the bumper). I found this to produce a lot of drag which showed up at the end of long straights. It might be worth getting the angle correct on your current one and test before going all in on a new one.
