Yeah, a lot of reinforcement is needed for deck-lid mounted wings. It's pretty easy to make a few hundred pounds of downforce at high speeds, and even more at "peak" (ie: strong head wind + high speed).

Most mounts have fair small footprints- maybe 8-10 square inches at most. You're talking hundreds of PSI there.
