There is a few things that can happen with a P0018, one of them is the learning values get skewed in the ECU and at that point, you basically need a new ECU. It's usually the cam sensor, or cam gear(AVCS). I believe valve lash has also caused this. But, catching P0016-P0019 early is important to prevent the learning values from getting eff'd.

I'd recommended taking a look at the service manual before attempting any repair, @Ultramaroon has it linked in his sig. If you can't figure out how to get the timing cover off then maybe you need to start talking with the dealership on them fixing it.
