hint:
the airbags are to cushion the blow of an impact, mostly to the drivers head. there is no reason the drivers head will ever occupy the space forward of the steering wheel.

I think the concern would be the aftermarket parts would fly off and become projectiles in the event of airbag deployment. One's head would not need to
be forward of the steering wheel.
That being said, I'd think they'd fly off laterally, not back at the driver. But truthfully I'm sure the risk is worth it; how else are you supposed to watch out for danger to manifold?
