The 8.8 is used mainly for drag, I haven't seen anyone so far using it for track. IMO best practice is to upgrade the axles / hubs if needed and place an adjustable 2 or 1.5 way lsd from OS Giken, Tomei, or Cusco. Get some good Poly or solid mounts for the load transfer.
I've got about 470 wtq with an OS with stock ring and pinion.
That's how I would do it.
PS. If you upgrade the diff, make sure you change all the bearings and such.
I'm curious on what you decide, I to have though about an 8.8 swap, I will only swap for durability and track use tho.
