Smoke from engine bay, passenger side
Hello I have a 2014 Scion FRS with with an engine swap .
After completing engine swap and getting everything checked at a shop the car seemed ready to go . After driving it home I smelt a burning smell and there was smoke come up from passenger side of engine bay, I suspected the cam plate may still have a minor leak . However the smoke is WHITE and I read blue means oil. The smoke I hope seems to be coming from something burning off the exhaust manifold
Yesterday 1/25/23 I drove the car again and same thing happened , so when I got home I turned on car and left it idle as I walked dog in the yard nearby to see if the smoke would come. It doesn’t show up when idle at least not within 20 mins, the smoke only appear when I drive the car at moderate speeds like 40-50 mph. My assumption was the cam plate may still be leaking but when I rub a napkin down there I see no oil (it was leaking past but shop said they fixed it) . My next guess is maybe there is residue left over on exhaust someway somehow and it’s burning off or worse case scenario It may be coming from something else like the timing cover even tho I don’t feel it.
Taking it back to shop tomorrow and they said they will try to see what’s causing it.
TL;DR: I just want to drive car, it’s been out of commission for around 8 months and I finally put the money down to get everything installed and everything seems fine until I drive and I see the white smoke and burning smell from engine bay in the left side.
EDIT: I would like to mention it the smoke doesn’t appear immediately after driving , I have to drive for like maybe 5 mins or so before it shows up(doesn’t happen when car is left on and chilling in neutral) . I want to drive the car more to rule out residue on the exhaust but scared to hurt the engine
