The main benefit is that this will be able to buy you time at the track until fire rescue can arrive. Even if it just supresses the fire in windy conditions, it will absolutely increase your chances.

As with most fire/safety equipment, this is about buying time effectively, not addressing the issue altogether. A fire suit doesn't put out the fire; it buys you time.
