Ok sorry for no update. Took it to a friends shop and got it on a lift and I ended up taking off the bolts that the transmission actually slides onto because one was already loose and seemed to be bent. I then got it to the dowels and after some pushing, then pulled it in with the rest of the bell housing bolts very carefully. I screwed those bolts back in using the 2 nuts stacked method and it drives great. Also I’m not sure how much it helped but we did spin the crankshaft while pushing it in to make things easier.
