In this case the OP has already considered the money aspect so he was looking for other reasons.
Like I said maybe he could have phrased things a bit differently to make that clear but forcing it to be the main consideration wasn't his intent.
The second gen is "better" in every way but those improvements are not as massive as some would have you think. It is more of a case of the same but improved. As has been said before though the comparisons are almost always against the early FRS and totally ignore many of the improvements and upgrades that occurred through the life of the first gen and the introduction of the two trim levels in the facelift cars.
There are many that also say there were things such as the steering and facelift final drive that were preferable in the first gen. These of course are also subjective based on driving style and personal preference though.
The only objection that I have raised is this oft repeated statement that people that still enjoy their gen one cars are only saying so because they can't afford a new one. THIS is why price keeps getting thrown back in the mix.
