whether it's the cause or not, it really doesn't matter, as even the indication of a non-approved oil filter plugging stuff up would be enough for most places to deny coverage.
the 0-30w oil definitely only furthers this point...

The oil part could be argued. The 0W-20 is "recommended" not "required" in the owner manual. The manual even says a higher viscosity oil
may be needed under certain conditions.
