A regular nut and bolt should be fine. spring bolts help keep tension on the nut so it doesn't back off.
I have run into this problem on exhaust systems on other vehicles. If you use a "regular nut and bolt", I would recommend using a jam nut to prevent it from loosening.


IMHO the spring system is there to allow some flex and not to act as a lock for the nut.
